In Memorium - Doghouse Riley

I return to this neglected outpost to note with sadness the passing of Hoosier blogger Doghouse Riley, proprietor of Bats Left/Throws Right. Doghouse, the nom de blog of Douglas M. Case, passed away Saturday in Indianapolis, at the unconscionably young age of 59. The interwebs will miss him.

BARBARians Assailing a Palin

Heh, Rich Lowry, she's not so horny.

It has been too long-- so this Thursday, the 16th, we plan a meet up at Zeitgeist (see this map for location) and note that it's in walking distance from either the Civic Center or 16th Mission Bart stations.

We are starting at 6:30 until they kick us out. We might not have helmuts with horns as decoration. Yet, if you are a new-comer, just ask everyone if they a know a barbarian name Garius Rubertus....

Gathering Of The Tribe

It's that time again! Beer and whiskey and politics, what could be better? All y'all BARBARians and various sympathizers, groupies, and assorted hangers-on are expressly invited to gather for just that at Glen Park Station in San Francisco on Thursday, May 22nd, beginning about 6-ish and going well into the night.

Tom Hilton has proposed a moratorium on conversations about the Democratic primary, but I'm guessing that will be difficult to enforce. Just show up, grab a drink and start talking, we'll see where it goes. And remember to look for the helmet!

Another Gathering

Hey, we're doing it again!

Uh... just in case anyone's out there... reading this...

This Saturday, April 12th, from early in the afternoon until who knows when in the evening, we'll be meeting up at Ben & Nick's Bar & Grill, 5612 College Ave., Oakland, hard by the Rockridge BART station. BARBARians unite! You have nothing to lose but your sobriety!

(Remember -- look for the helmet!)

Beer-Thirty... Make That Beer-Forty-Five

Hey, anyone out there still checking this blog for updates? Hello...? Well, just in case some of you are wondering when the next BARBARian beer bash is scheduled, wonder no more. Saturday afternoon, March 1st, we will be occupying the back tables at Zeitgeist -- located on Valencia and Duboce Streets in San Francisco -- for the better part of the day and probably on into the evening. Come on out for some conversation, beer, political talk, beer, conviviality, beer and possibly a Manhattan or two. Look for the horned helmet and the pajama-wearing, mother's-basement-dwelling, America-hating fucking liberal bloggers. That will be us.

As always, all Bay Area bloggers and readers are welcome, but -- fair warning here -- if you live on the right side of the dial, you may not be as comfortable among us as you might like. I mean, I'm just sayin'.

BARBARians And An Outsider

This Sunday, 12/9, our good friend (and frequent commenter) George, proprietor of I'm Not One To Blog, But... will be in San Francisco with his lovely wife, visiting us from their home base, Santa Barbara. Because we don't need much of an excuse to drink, we BARBARians are using the occasion to gather together and meet up for beers and/or cocktails at Elixir, 16th and Guerrero in SF. We'll be there starting about 1 in the afternoon, and may end up there the rest of the day if past meetings are any indication. Please feel free to join us in our endeavor; we love new faces, and readers are always welcome!

Hey, That's Tonight!

If you're reading this, you're cordially invited to join the BARBARians (Bay Area Resident Bloggers And Readers) for our semi-regular drinking spree get-together tonight, October 11th, at Glen Park Station in San Francisco. Festivities will start sometime after 6 PM, and will conclude at some point hours thereafter. Alcohol will most certainly be involved.
